Step 1: Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast. Add the warm water and stir until a sticky dough forms. No kneading is required — simply mix until the ingredients are combined.
Step 2: First Rise (8–12 Hours)
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rest at room temperature for 8–12 hours (overnight works well).
During this time, the dough will expand and develop bubbles on the surface.
Step 3: Shape the Dough
Lightly flour a work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Fold the dough over itself two or three times and shape it into a rough ball.
Let the dough rest for 30 minutes while the oven preheats.
Step 4: Preheat the Dutch Oven
Place your Dutch oven (with the lid) inside the oven and preheat to 450°F (230°C) for at least 30 minutes.
Preheating the pot helps create the high heat needed for a crispy crust.
Step 5: Bake the Bread
Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven.
Transfer the dough inside (using parchment paper can make this step easier). Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
Then remove the lid and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, until the crust becomes golden brown.
Step 6: Cool Before Slicing
Place the bread on a wire rack and allow it to cool for at least 1 hour before slicing. This helps the internal texture set properly.
